# Connecting Linear

Connecting Linear gives Indent your issues and projects as a tool. Ask it to pull up a ticket, find
related work, file a bug, or update a status, and it works with Linear directly.

## Connect Linear

1. **Open the integrations page**

   Open [**Settings → Integrations**](https://app.indent.com/settings/integrations) and find
   Linear.
2. **Choose a scope**

   Connect at **organization** scope to share the integration with your team, or **personal** scope
   to connect as yourself. A personal integration works only in a [private
   session](/collaborating/personal-and-private).
3. **Authorize with Linear**

   Linear connects through its hosted MCP server. Authorize access, and Indent can use Linear in
   your sessions.

> **Note**
>
> An organization-scoped Linear connection acts as an application, not as the person who set it up,
> so it needs no service account: Linear attributes Indent's issues and comments to Indent, and the
> connection keeps working when that person's account changes. A workspace admin has to approve the
> install. A personal connection acts as you and inherits your own Linear access.

## What Indent does with Linear

- Reads and searches issues, projects, and their details.
- Creates issues from a request in a session.
- Updates issues, including status, assignee, and other fields.
- Comments on issues.

>
> Indent uses Linear as a tool within a session. It does not respond to being tagged on a Linear
> issue — start the work from a session in the web app or from
> [Slack](/collaborating/working-in-slack).
